Best Audiobooks for Car Travel

Now that winter is nearly here and the holiday season is looming, you might be planning to spend a lot of hours in your car driving from family reunions to work parties to friends’ get-togethers. And, of course, you often need to make extra trips to pick up supplies for cooking, decorating, and gift-wrapping. Add that to the time you already spend commuting, driving the kids to and from school and activities, and running the usual errands, and you might feel like pulling your hair out if you have to listen to more talk radio or--maybe even worse--sappy holiday music on the radio.
We’d love to recommend some of our favorite audiobooks for your consideration:
Girl, Wash Your Face: Stop Believing the Lies About Who You Are So You Can Become Who You Were Meant to Be
By Rachel Hollis
The Handmaid's Tale
By Margaret Atwood
This book was written in 1985 but explores issues that still seem relevant today about power, gender, and religious extremism gone amok.
Commonwealth
By Ann Patchett
This family drama covers nearly 50 years and explores how one man’s impulsive decision (to kiss a woman who is not his wife) destroys two marriages and affects him, two families, and others as they all struggle to come to terms with how his original action blows up their lives.
The Legend of Drizzt: the Collected Stories
By R.A. Salvatore
This delightful audiobook is a collection of 12 stories about Drizzt, a dark elf, who is a beloved characters from the Dungeons and Dragons game. The talented narrators include Weird Al Yankovic, Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day, and David Duchovny.
The Cricket in Times Square
By George Seldon
Chester is a cricket from Connecticut who accidentally gets trapped on a train and finds himself in Times Square in New York City in the early 1960s. He befriends a young boy, Mario, and they work together with their other friends, both human and animal, to save a newsstand from going bankrupt. Although the book is more than 50 years old, its characters and story still enchant adults and children alike today.
